Festive opening of electric coach charging infrastructure

On Friday, 19 June, the charging infrastructure for electric coaches at Cruise Port Amsterdam (CPA) was officially inaugurated by Michiel Cusell, COO of Port of Amsterdam, and Dick de Graaff, Director of CPA. This milestone marks another important step in the transition toward a zero-emission value chain within the cruise industry. With this development, CPA positions itself as a leading pioneer among European cruise ports.

Sustainability across the value chain

In 2025, CPA already introduced shore power facilities for cruise ships. The 2026 launch of charging infrastructure for coaches, comprising three locations with a total of 12 charging points at the terminal, represents the next phase in its ambitious objective to become one of the most sustainable cruise terminals in Europe. The 12 fast-charging stations, each with a capacity of 375 kW, are located both indoors in the terminal and the Piet Hein Building parking garage, as well as outdoors along the Veemkade.

Collaboration to accelerate the transition to zero emissions

From the opening onwards, fully electric coaches benefit from a 50% discount on charging and parking fees. This initiative is part of a joint pilot project with the Municipality of Amsterdam to stimulate zero-emission coach transport and aligns seamlessly with the city’s policy framework. Port of Amsterdam is responsible for the exploitation of the charging infrastructure. This initiative serves as an example of effective collaboration between the Municipality of Amsterdam, Port of Amsterdam, and Cruise Port Amsterdam.

Charging infrastructure in practice

Coach drivers can report to the terminal reception at Piet Heinkade, where it is verified whether the vehicle is fully electric. If so, the 50% discount applies and is immediately deducted from the parking fee. The charging infrastructure at the terminal is available 24/7.
