The handling of ocean and river cruises has many similarities, but there are also differences. The number of calls for river cruises is much higher and are spread over varios docks in the region. The terminal however, is not used for this. In addition, reserving a berth is different. River cruise shipping companies do this independently, in the custom-made reservation system CruiseDock.
The start of the season is also accompanied by festivities; such as the opening of the Minervahaven for the popular cycling and sailing holidays. These are river cruises that are entirely devoted to cycling routes at every destination. For this purpose, the Minervahaven (previously used as an oil dock) has been converted into a ‘home port’ for these calls.
The naming ceremony of eight new Viking Cruises river cruise ships will take place on March 16. The festive ceremony is being celebrated in Paris, but there are also four ships moored at the CPA quay. The Viking Gymir, Viking Egdir, Viking Hervor and Viking Gersemi will also be named via a sateliet connection.
The team of Cruise Port Amsterdam is ready, from mid-April the ocean cruise season will also start, so… lets get ready to rumble!
